The award goes to author Marianne Davies, Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven. Marianne’s paper and video abstract is titled ‘New modalities of cancer treatment for NSCLC: focus on immunotherapy’, which is published in the journal Cancer Management and Research – an open access journal that focuses on cancer research and the optimal use of preventative and integrated treatment interventions to achieve improved outcomes, enhanced survival and quality of life for the cancer patient.

Video abstracts enable authors to personally explain the importance of their work to the reader. They enhance the understanding and appreciation of the article through the visual presentation of a brief summary of the results and conclusions reported. Authors are encouraged to combine footage of themselves with other relevant material of interest—such as footage of an experiment running.

Voting for the competition was opened in early November, and videos with the most views were eligible for selection. Voting was performed by published Dove Medical Press authors.

Marianne wins A GoPro camera, one free personal submission of a manuscript to any Dove Medical Press journal, and free institutional membership for her department, which provides three free manuscript submissions plus 30% discount off all further submissions during the year.

Marianne said “I am honored to receive the Dove Medical Press Video Abstract Award. I am also humbled as depth and breadth of the contributions is impressive. The field of immune-oncology is expanding at an exponential rate.  It is so rewarding to be able to offer patients a treatment option that may provide them meaningful and enduring responses with quality of life.  It is essential that healthcare providers are educated about the unique mechanism of action, pattern of response and management of patients receiving immuno-oncology targeted therapies. I feel it an honor and duty to be able to participate in educating colleagues about these revolutionary treatments.”

Why not submit your own video abstract to be eligible for 2016’s Video Abstract award? Voting will open again in November 2016, and information regarding submission guidelines for video abstracts can be viewed here.

You can also view other video abstracts on the Dove Medical Press home page. Congratulations again to Marianne Davies!
