Dove Press Journals Awarded Prestigious DOAJ Seal

Dove Press, a privately held company specializing in the publication of Open Access peer-reviewed journals across the broad spectrum of science, technology and medicine, recently announced that its Patient Preference and Adherence, Transplant Research and Risk Management, Research and Reports in Endocrine Disorders, and Nanotechnology, Science and Applications journals were awarded the prestigious Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) Seal.

“We are very pleased to see that several of our journals were recognized by DOAJ,” said Tim Hill, Dove Press Publisher, “we applaud our authors and editorial team for their continuing commitment to the highest level of publishing standards and industry best practices.”

The Directory of Open Access Journals includes more than 10,000 open access journals covering all areas of science, technology, medicine, social science and humanities. The DOAJ Seal is now live on the DOAJ website and is now displayed alongside those journals that qualify.

Dove Press journals that adhere to an exceptionally high level of publishing standards and best practice are awarded the Seal as recognition of those efforts. The Seal is awarded to a journal that fulfills a set of criteria related to accessibility, openness, discoverability, reuse and author rights. It acts as a signal to readers and authors that the journal has generous use and reuse terms, author rights and adheres to the highest level of ‘openness’. The Seal has nothing to do with the scholarly quality of the material published in the journal.

To qualify for the Seal the journal must: have an archival and preservation arrangement in place with an external party such as CLOCKSS, LOCKSS, Portico; provide permanent identifiers in the published content such DOIs; provide article level metadata to DOAJ; embed machine-readable CC licensing information in article level metadata; allow reuse and remixing of content in accordance with a CC BY, CC BY-SA or CC BY-NC license; have a deposit policy registered in a deposit policy directory such as SHERPA/RoMEO; and allow the author to hold the copyright without restriction.

“Open access includes a broad recognition of reader rights, reuse rights, copyrights, author posting rights, and more -- the entire executive team at Dove Press are excited to be at the vanguard of this transformation of science, technology and medical publishing,” explains Mr. Hill.
