The Continuum of Aging and Age-Related Diseases: Present Hurdles and Future Evidence
Population aging is a significant global challenge, making geroscience an important emerging field. The goal of geroscience is to enhance our understanding of the genetic, molecular, and cellular mechanisms that underlie aging, which is a major risk factor or driver of age-related diseases (ARDs), such as sarcopenia, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cancer, Parkinson’s disease, or Alzheimer’s disease. Geroscience research is crucial in helping geriatrics slow the impact of aging on ARDs, improve function and resilience in the elderly, and reduce multimorbidity. This Collection provides updated evidence on biological markers, cellular mechanisms, lifestyle factors, environmental risk factors, and more to deepen our understanding of the aging-ARDs continuum.
