Noteworthy comment: Despite the fact that many patients with chronic pain self-medicate with alcohol, little is known regarding the overall impact of the practice. This excellent manuscript elucidates our understanding of the practice, and should have a dramatic impact on chronic pain's biopsychosocial treatment.
