We, the Editors and Publisher of the Journal of Inflammation Research, have retracted the published article.

After publication, concerns have been raised by a third party in 2025 about the integrity of the data in Figures 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the article.

Further investigation conducted by the Journal and Publisher confirmed the following:

  • unexpected similarities present in the immunofluorescence cell staining image panels in Figure 3M, which are representative of different treatment conditions;
  • unexpected similarities between the Western blots shown in Figures 3C and 6C, which are representative of different samples and treatment conditions;
  • unexpected similarities present in the immunofluorescence staining images for in Figure 5J, which are representative of different samples and treatment conditions;
  • unexpected similarities present in the H&E images in Figure 4C, which are representative of different samples and treatment conditions.

When informed that concerns had been raised and contacted for an explanation, the authors requested the correction of the article and provided their raw data and the relevant documentation for Figures 3, 4, 5 and 6. However, the data integrity concerns identified in the Western blots remain unaddressed.

Given the extent of image integrity concerns in the figures published, and the unaddressed data integrity concerns in the Western blots, the Journal and Publisher no longer have confidence in the reported conclusions. Therefore, we are retracting the article. The corresponding author listed in this publication has been informed.

We have been informed in our decision-making by our editorial policies and the COPE guidelines.

The retracted article will remain online to maintain the scholarly record, but it will be digitally watermarked on each page as ‘Retracted’.
