Current research and opinion on neglected helminthic infections
Hundreds of millions of people are infected with helminthic diseases, which occur widely, though not uniformly, throughout the tropical regions of planet Earth. Although simple sanitation and treatment measures have largely eliminated helminthic disease as a serious public health problem in the developed world, helminthic diseases continue to exert a very significant burden in many of the world's most underdeveloped countries and in most of the world's most seriously impoverished regions. This Collection encourages and supports the publication of research reports and comments on issues surrounding not only the helminthic diseases that are targeted for control but also those, like mansonellosis and loiasis, which presently are not.
