Kushang Patel, PhD, MPH is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle. He is an epidemiologist and gerontologist who completed doctoral training in preventive medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch and a post-doctoral fellowship in the Intramural Research Program of the National Institute on Aging/NIH.

Dr. Patel has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications related to pain, aging, and physical activity. He is broadly knowledgeable about issues related to health and aging in older adults, with particular expertise in the areas of pain management and physical function assessment. His research involves (1) investigating the epidemiology of pain and aging; (2) developing and evaluating technology-enhanced behavioral interventions to improve pain management and function among older adults; and (3) evaluating outcome assessment tools for observational studies and clinical trials of chronic pain and aging. His research is currently funded by the CDC and NIH.
