Dr  Martin, M.D., M.Sc. is Professor of Medicine at Emory University in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care. He completed his undergraduate studies at Duke University; medical school, residency and subspecialty fellowship training were completed at Vanderbilt University and a post-graduate Master of Science degree at Emory University.

Dr. Martin conducts clinical and translational research in critically ill patients, with his primary interests being in sepsis, organ dysfunction syndromes and acute lung injury (ALI) or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). He is the co-author of approximately 100 scientific articles, reviews, book chapters, editorials and scientific abstracts, and he has given a larger number of lectures at institutional, national and international conferences.

In addition to his roles as the Section Chief for Pulmonary and Critical Care and Director of the Medical and Coronary Intensive Care Units at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr Martin takes an active teaching role in the Pulmonary & Critical Care fellowship program. He is also the Director of the Clinical Interaction Site for the Atlanta Clinical and Translational Science Institute at Emory Crawford Long Hospital.
