Lei Yang is currently a professor at the Institute of Orthopaedics, Soochow University (Suzhou, China). He received his PhD (2011) in engineering and MS (2011) in innovation management and entrepreneurship from Brown University (Providence, USA) and both ME (2006) and BE (2004) in materials science and engineering from Tsinghua University (Beijing, China). Before joining the Soochow University in 2012, Lei worked as lecturer and postdoc in the School of Engineering at Brown University. His research interests focus on novel biomaterials for orthopedic applications and mechanistic study on cell-material interactions. He has authored at least three book chapters, 23 peer-reviewed journal papers, 7 conference proceedings and four patents. He is an editorial member of the Nano Bulletin and serves on the review panels of over 27 international research journals. He is also the recipient of a number of awards, including the National 1000 Young Talents (China), the Fresh Face Young Scientist of Sigma Xi (USA), the Society For Biomaterials (SFB) Student Award for Outstanding Research (USA), the Materials Research Society (MRS) Graduate Student Silver Award (USA) and the Chinese Government Award For Outstanding Students Abroad.
