Dr Marc Hébert is a full professor of ophthalmology at Université Laval, Québec City, Canada and the director of the Photobiology Laboratory at the Centre de Recherche de l’Institut Universitaire de Santé Mental de Québec (CRIUSMQ). He is also past president (2010-2012) of the Society for Light Treatment and Biological Rhythms (SLTBR) a not-for-profit international organization founded in 1988, dedicated to fostering research, professional development, and clinical applications in the fields of light therapy and biological rhythms.

He holds a BA in psychology (1992) from Ottawa University, Ottawa, ON, Canada, and a PhD in neurobiology (1998) from Université de Montréal, Montreal, QC, Canada, with a specialization in chronobiology and visual electrophysiology. Since 2001 he has received many career awards (Junior I, Junior II, and Senior Research Scholars) from the Fonds de la Recherche en Santé du Québec (FRSQ). He is also the scientific director of the Foundation des Maladies de L’oeil (Eye Disease Foundation).

His translational scientific research focused on field applications of light to help night shift workers to better adapt to the night shift. He is also investigating the light response of the eyes of patients with psychiatric disorders, an assessment that appears very promising for the identification of neurotransmitter anomalies underlying some psychiatric illnesses. He has published 40 peer reviewed articles and over 150 presentations at scientific meetings. He is regularly invited to provide media expertise on light therapy and chronobiology.
