Editor-in-Chief: Dr Yoshifumi Itoh
Yoshifumi Itoh is a Senior Lecturer of Matrix Biology at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, the University of Oxford. He received his MSc in Clinical Pharmacy from the Tokyo College of Pharmacy in Japan in 1991 and joined the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, USA. In 1996, he received his PhD from the Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences (formerly Tokyo College of Pharmacy) with the work done in the US. In 1997 he moved back to Japan and was appointed as an Assistant Professor (Joshu) in the Department of Cancer Cell Research at the Institute of Medical Sciences, University of Tokyo. In 2001 he moved to the UK and joined the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, Imperial College London, where he has his own research group. In 2011 the institute was transferred to the University of Oxford, and the research building was relocated to Oxford in 2013.
His research interests have been cell invasion and tissue destructions related to arthritis and cancer. Especially he is interested in the roles and regulations of membrane-type matrix metalloproteinases that promote progression of diseases.
