I would like to announce the arrival of Metalloproteinases in Medicine, a new open access peer-reviewed journal published by Dove Medical Press. Metalloproteinases In Medicine is an international journal that provides a platform for discussion and dissemination of new knowledge about the role that metalloproteinases (inclusive of matrix metalloproteinases, the ADAM [A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase] family, the ADAMTS [A Disintegrin and Metalloproteinase with Thrombospondin motifs] family, astacins, and merpins) and their inhibitors play in biology and disease. We are presently inviting authors to contribute to this online journal, and hope you will submit an original research or review paper. As our field continues to grow, a dedicated journal will provide a welcome venue to ensure we reach the right audience for our work.

Although new journals must overcome several hurdles on the path to success, I feel that with Metalloproteinases In Medicine we have surmounted many of these. We have already recruited an outstanding international editorial board comprised of prominent investigators with broad expertise in the field of metalloproteinases. In addition, I am pleased that Dove Medical Press is our publisher. I have worked with Dove before as the founding editor of the Journal of Inflammation Research from 2009 to 2013. The Dove staff are committed, highly professional, and responsive, and work quickly and efficiently to ensure that manuscripts are reviewed promptly and published soon after being accepted.

We encourage submission of original research from a variety of models and systems, including clinical and human-based studies, basic research with animals, cells, model organisms, and in vitro systems, and in silico investigations. In addition to original research submissions, we welcome commentaries, reviews, and letters addressing topics related to metalloproteinase biology.

Your contributions will help Metalloproteinases In Medicine establish a high standard and to be indexed by PubMed soon. A significant issue with any new journal is a lack of accreditation in the major medical indexes, making authors understandably reluctant to commit their best work to a journal that cannot yet be found through PubMed. However, once we are indexed, which occurs when 35 papers are published, then all past and future Metalloproteinases In Medicine articles will be available through PubMed and other search services.

I hope you will consider submitting a manuscript to Metalloproteinases In Medicine in the near future. If you are interested, please let me know the proposed title of your paper and an approximate submission date, and I will forward your response to the Dove editorial office, which will send you a note with preregistration information to facilitate submission. Dove’s staff are outstanding in terms of their efficiency and graciousness. Your review will receive immediate and individual attention, since it is an invited contribution. As mentioned, manuscript processing is quite rapid.

Guidelines for submission are similar to those of other journals, using American Medical Association reference style, but some are unique and appear on the site. Note that all papers will go through peer review (this invitation is not a guarantee for publication), and there is a word limit of 7,500 words per submission.
