Noteworthy Comment: Few studies have evaluated the impact of pneumonia on healthcare resource utilization and costs in this population. This study demonstrated elevated healthcare resource use and costs in patients with COPD after acquiring pneumonia compared to those without pneumonia. By reducing the risk of pneumonia in patients with COPD wherever possible, significant benefits to patients with COPD and the resulting savings to our healthcare system can be realized.
