Professor Stone is a graduate of the University of London and the University of Aberdeen. He was Professor of Neurosciences in London University (1986-1988) where he was awarded the degree of D.Sc. for "Contributions to the Physiology and Pharmacology of the Nervous System" (1983), and then Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Glasgow (1989-2017). He is now Professor Emeritus and Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the University of Oxford.  Professor Stone has published over 420 full research papers (ORCID 0000-0002-5532-0031), over 200 proceedings abstracts, and has authored or edited 13 books (H index 53). He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, Fellow of the British Pharmacological Society and Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Physicians (London).
