Consulting Editor: Farooq A. Shiekh (PhD)

Farooq A. Shiekh is the Research Chair and Professor, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Avalon University of Medicine Curacao, Netherlands Antilles. His area of research is targeted nanotherapeutics in cancer. Development of advancing nanocarriers. We are trying to develop individual-based advanced “multitherapeutic nanoplatforms” in order to enhance efficacy of drug delivery to reach far into untargetable tumor sites. These newer approaches ideally seek to completely immaculate highly complex tumor tissues, that have, thus far, been resistant to available therapies, not only by the elimination of every malignant cell types, but essentially confronting at different molecular levels or pathways involving tumor cell growth, migration, and invasion, using new combined therapeutics in the most effective manner, fewer side effects.
He obtained his PhD in biochemical characterization of small particles, from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India, in 2005. From 2010-2012 he joined as a senior postdoctoral scientist in one of the largest research center, Faculte of De Medecine, Unite De Recherche Sur Les Maladies Infectieuses et Tropicales emergentes ( URMITE), National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), WHO Collaborative center, Aix- Marseille University, France. He also worked as a Research Fellow in the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA, from 2007-2009. He was attracted to this position because of ongoing research on nanoparticles in this world-class institution with the best clinical and research facilities.
