Dr. Ellen Soffin is an Assistant Attending Anesthesiologist at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Weill Cornell Medical College (New York, NY, USA). Dr. Soffin completed medical school at King’s College Medical School (London, UK) followed by residency training in anesthesiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital (Baltimore, MD, USA) and fellowship in Regional Anesthesia & Acute Pain Medicine at HSS. She is the Chair of the Anesthesia Spine Service Workgroup and directs the department’s spine research program.

Dr. Soffin's clinical interests include anesthesia for complex spine surgery, emphasizing opioid-sparing anesthesia and applications of regional analgesia to the spine surgery patient. She is a nationally recognized expert on enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathways for spine surgery. She has published extensively on opioid-minimizing strategies for orthopedic surgery, as well as on the role of the anesthesiologist in curbing the opioid epidemic. Her work has been published in leading journals including British Journal of Anaesthesia, Anesthesia & Analgesia, Spine, European Spine Journal and Anesthesiology.
