Dr. Sun is a professor and surgeon at Nanjing University where he serves as the Vice president of The Affiliated Drum Tower Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School. In 2001, he obtained his MD-PhD degree in Nanjing Medical University, China. As a postdoctoral fellow at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, he devoted his time to telomerase-related cancer research. As a surgeon, he is skilled in liver transplantation and Hepatectomy.

Dr. Sun's research is mainly focused on inflammatory-related carcinogenesis. His team discovered the potential therapeutic values and mechanistic roles of cytokines in hepatocarcinogenesis including IL-22, IL-17A, and IL-1α, etc. His team also explored the cell signaling involving in the malfunction of tumor infiltrated Leucocytes (TILs), they clarified the roles of PTPRO/STAT3, PTPRO/NF-κB, and Lnc-EGFR/EGFR/AP-1 signaling in the immunosuppressive-transform of T cell and macrophage. His current research interests are inflammatory related metabolic disorders in TILs, aiming to clarify the metabolism-related links in T cell exhausting and NK cell malfunction. Meanwhile, clinical trials of immunotherapy are in procession using CAR-T and CRISPR-Cas9. 

Dr. Sun is the Yangtze River Scholar Professor of Chinese Ministry of Education, and he also obtained a National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He is an Associate Editor of Plos One and Associate Editor of World Journal of Gastroenterology, a member of the Youth Committee of Chinese Organ Transplantation Society of Chinese Medical Association and the Executive Committee of Chinese Society of Liver Cancer, Chinese Anti-Cancer Association.
