Chungyi (Chung-Yi) Chiu, Ph.D., CRC, LPC, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). She received her Ph.D. in rehabilitation psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her master’s degree in occupational therapy from the National Taiwan University.
Dr Chiu is the founder and director of the Health Promotion and Rehabilitation Laboratory. She is also the ARCA Rehabilitation Counselor of the Year in 2024 recognized by the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (ARCA), and the 2025 Women in Rehabilitation Science Award recognized by the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine.
Dr Chiu is the five-time winner of the Research Award honored by the ARCA. Her research interests include health promotion, psychosocial adjustment, self-management, healthcare use experience, and social participation among people with chronic illnesses and disabilities. She has been the principal investigator of studies funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation, and the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, etc.
