Professor Balakrishnan Kichu Nair is Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean at the University of Newcastle, Australia. Prof. Nair qualified from the University of Kerala, India. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ireland and Australia. He holds an MD from the University of Newcastle, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Education in Europe and Fellow of the Australia and NZ Society of Health Professional Education. He is the Foundation Director of the Academy of Medical Educators and Center for Medical Professional Development in Newcastle.

Prof. Nair established the first Work Place Based Assessment for Foreign Medical Graduates in 2011 and is the Chair of the WBA committee for the Australian Medical Council. Prof. Nair was the foundation Director of the Master of Clinical Medicine and Leadership program at the University of Newcastle. He is an Emeritus Advisor to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and is a member of the International Advisory Panel of the College Journal. He is a series Editor of the Clinical Skills section of the Medical Journal of Australia and is a member of several editorial panels of medical journals. He was awarded the Order of Australia in 2009 and the Royal Australasian College Medal in 2012.

He has published 2 text books, over 100 peer reviewed articles and many textbook chapters. He is an active clinician, researcher and mentor.
