Editor-in-Chief: Dr Adolfo Perujo

Dr Perujo is a senior scientist at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre. As the Commission's in-house science service, the Joint Research Centre's mission is to provide EU policies with independent, evidence-based scientific and technical support throughout the whole policy cycle. Working in close cooperation with policy Directorates-General, the JRC addresses key societal challenges while stimulating innovation through developing new methods, tools and standards, and sharing its know-how with the member states, the scientific community and international partners.

Dr Perujo graduated from the Universidad de Sevilla (Spain) and obtained the MSc (Accelerator Physics) in the University of Manitoba (Canada). He completed his PhD (applied physics) at the University of Guelph (Canada). Over a period of 25 years he has gained experience in areas ranging from theoretical physics to experimental physico-chemistry of processes, and vehicles' tail-pipe pollutant emission measurement and control. He has always been involved in the energy production and storage research field. He has also managed research projects both within the JRC and in collaboration with other national and international research institutes.

His employment experience includes AECL Chalk River Laboratory (Canada), and different institutes at the Joint Research Centre. He has been head of the Hydrogen-Material Interaction Group and has been involved in renewable energies, with particular emphasis in storage technologies and demonstration of renewable energy systems. He has been the leader of a project team within the Sustainable Transport Unit in charge of alternative fuels (including hydrogen) and vehicles powertrains (FC, BEV, hybrid vehicles).

At present Dr Perujo leads the group in charge of the development of in-service conformity of heavy-duty engines/vehicle by using Portable Emission Measurement Systems in order to avoid the removal of engines from vehicles for testing pollutant emissions against legislative limits. He is a member of several international committees and professional societies.
