Dr Okunseri is an associate professor in the Department of Clinical Services and Director of the Predoctoral Program in Dental Public Health at Marquette University School of Dentistry in Wisconsin. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health, and the president of the Faculty Council of the School of Dentistry.

Originally from Nigeria, Dr Okunseri studied dentistry at the University of Benin in Edo State. After graduating from Benin, he practiced general dentistry in Benin City and Port Harcourt for several years before leaving Nigeria for the UK. He then gained his MSc in dental public health at the Eastman Dental Institute for Oral Health Care Sciences, University College, London. He received a diploma in dental public hHealth from the Royal College of Surgeons in England, became a fellow of the Faculty of Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and subsequently moved to New York. There, he completed a residency program in dental public health at the Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University.

Dr Okunseri has published several peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and reports. He acts as a reviewer for nearly a dozen medical and dental journals, including the Journal of Health Policy, Journal of Public Health Dentistry, and the American Journal Public Health. He is also on the editorial board of the Journal of Public Health Dentistry. His involvement in professional organizations and committees includes American Dental Education Association, American Dental Association, the American Public Health Association, the American Association for Dental Research, and the Education and Science Committee of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry. He has also been a member of the International Association of Dental Research since the year 2000. Reflecting his interest in social epidemiology and the epidemiology of oral disease, his clinical studies have often focused on variations in dental experiences amongst different communities, including African-American, Somali and Latino populations.

Dr Okunseri maintains a one-day a week private practice in general dentistry in addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, and has been with Marquette University since 2004.
