Professor Ayse Kuruuzum-Uz is working as academic staff at the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Hacettepe University (Ankara, Turkey).

Professor Ayse Kuruuzum-Uz's research interests are biological pharmacy (bioactive natural products/pharmacognosy/ phytotherapy/pharmaceutical ethnobotany). She has been working on isolation, purification (especially glycosides: anthraquinones, naphtoquinones, naphtalenes, flavonoids, iridoids, phenolic compounds, triterpenes etc.) using open column chromatographies, MPLC or HPLC, characterization of isolated compounds using chemical and spectral methods: acid, alkaline hydrolysis and, 1D and 2D-NMR methods, Mass, UV, IR, Optical Rotation, and biological evaluation (such as cytotoxic, antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, antiulcerogenic, antimicrobial activities) of natural products from the plants of higher plant origin together with her colleagues. Her current research includes the isolation of drug candidate molecules from plants having an apoptotic effect on tumor cell lines and their caspase activities. She studied at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, Georg-August University, Göttingen, Germany as a visiting scientist for a short time period. 

Professor Ayse Kuruuzum-Uz is a member of some international and national societies on pharmacognosy. She has served as secretary and in association management of the National Pharmacognosy Societies. She has supervised for BSc, MSc and PhD. She has reviewed many manuscripts for different journals and prepared several chapters for national herbal monograph books. She won The Scholarship for PhD Study from The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK-BAYG) and Hacettepe University Scientific Encourage Award.
