With a great sadness, we would like to inform our readers that our past Editor-in-Chief of the Clinical Audit Journal, Prof Marietta Stanton passed away at the beginning of 2019.

As an Editor-in-Chief of the Clinical Audit Journal from 2010 until her death in 2019, Prof Stanton has made a powerful international impact on the journal and clinical audits development and publishing. Her legacy will last long after her departure.

Prof Stanton was also a published author, having contributed to over a hundred publications and several books. Her areas of interest include achieving improved outcomes for vulnerable patient populations, including rural populations, the homeless, and military families.

During her long career she was the recipient of numerous honours and awards, including the Legion of Merit and the 2018 Burnum Distinguished Faculty Award, one of the highest honours bestowed on professors at The University of Alabama.

Prof Stanton was a professor and director of graduate programs at The University of Alabama, Capstone College of Nursing. She received her MA in nursing from New York University, a Masters in Business Science from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, and her PhD from The State University of New York at Buffalo.

One of her legacy is the Marietta Stanton Graduate Nursing Endowed Scholarship Fund. She created this fund to support the nursing graduate students.
