Dr. Cristina Weinberg received her Diploma in Biochemistry (BSc Hons equivalent) from Bucharest University (Romania) and PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Auckland (New Zealand).

For her PhD she studied the effect of recombinant human galectin-1 on the growth of normal and tumour cells. She then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Massey University studying deglycosylation enzymes (PNG-ases) and afterwards at the Medical School, Goteborg University (Sweden) studying the properties of recombinant C- and N-terminal of MUC-2 mucins.

She returned to New Zealand in 2003 and worked on transfusion, transplantation and fertility research projects at an Auckland-based Biotech company (KODE Biotech). Subsequently she worked as a lecturer in the Institute Natural Sciences and Mathematics (Massey University) teaching Applied Molecular Biology and Genetics papers.

Dr Weinberg published articles in peer-reviewed journals and has presented her research at conferences in New Zealand and Sweden.
