The Dynamic Landscape of Liver Transplantation and Hepatocellular Carcinoma
There has been an ongoing evolution of the role of liver transplantation in the treatment of patients who have a diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma over the last four decades. From the beginnings of the Milan criteria to the use of liver transplantation as a salvage therapy for patients who have exhausted other medical and surgical interventions, we are living in a field that is rapidly changing. Newer immunotherapies and incorporating a multi-faceted approach to treat this disease subsequently expands the potential pool of patients who may ultimately require and will subsequently benefit from liver transplantation.
