Professor Parks

Editor-in-Chief: Professor William C. Parks

William C. Parks received his Ph.D. in Anatomy from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1982 and did postdoctoral training in cancer biology at Michigan State University and in extracellular matrix biology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. In 1986, Dr. Parks joined the faculty at Washington University, eventually becoming Professor of Pediatrics, Medicine, and Cell Biology and Physiology. In 2004, he relocated to the University of Washington in Seattle, where he is Professor of Medicine and Director of the Center for Lung Biology. His research focuses on the function of matrix metalloproteinase in immunity and inflammation, with an emphasis on how these enzymes shape the recruitment and activation status of neutrophils and macrophages, and on the molecular regulation of elastin production during development and disease. Among his current national responsibilities, Dr. Parks is President of the American Society for Matrix Biology, a standing member of the NIH Lung Injury, Repair, and Regeneration study section, an editorial board member of several peer-reviewed journals, and on the Advisory Board for the Shriner’s Hospitals Research program.
