Editor-in-Chief: Dr Amy Friedman
Dr Friedman is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. She earned her undergraduate Baccalaureate degree in Biology at Princeton University in 1979. She received her Medical Degree from the State University of New York, Downstate in Brooklyn, NY, in 1983 where she remained from 1983 through 1990, completing her residency in General Surgery and a fellowship in Surgical Residency. From 1990 through 1992 she received fellowship training in Transplant Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and joined their faculty as an Assistant Professor in 1992. She moved to Yale University in 1992, first as an Assistant Professor, and then as an Associate Professor in Surgery. Her research interests have focused on safety issues for live kidney donors, clinical challenges in caring for the geriatric kidney transplant recipient, and the prevention of medication errors following transplantation. She has been funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to study the use of the internet in teaching patients how to prevent medication errors, work that is currently in progress. She has also spent five years working with the Department of Commerce’s Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Program and has served as a Senior Examiner, participated in 3 site visits, and led a site visit team. She has participated in Study Sections for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. She is heavily involved in the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and several other professional organizations. In addition to these academic pursuits, she is involved as a professional member of the American Association of Kidney Patients, a non-profit organization directed by patients to improve the lives of fellow kidney patients and their families, and currently serves as the organization’s secretary.
On a personal note, she is the proud wife of a Senior Web Developer, and mother to three children and the family menagerie of 1 horse, 2 dogs and a guinea pig. She is an enthusiastic photographer and loves traveling to the four corners of the world.
