Editor-in-Chief: Dr Ajay K. Singh
Dr. Ajay K. Singh is a senior nephrologist in the Renal Division at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. In addition, he is Director of Postgraduate Education in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) in Boston.
After obtaining his medical degree (MBBS) from University College Hospital of the University of London in London, the United Kingdom, Dr. Singh concluded his medical training with a clinical fellowship in nephrology and a research fellowship at Tufts–New England Medical Center in Boston. Dr. Singh has been Clinical Chief in the renal Division at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School for the past 10 years. During this time he has obtained an MBA from Boston University.
Dr. Singh’s research interests are primarily focused on chronic kidney disease and anemia, erythropoietin and erythropoietin biosimilars. As Principal Investigator of the CJOIR study and a member of the Executive Steering Committee of the TREAT study, both landmark trials, Dr. Singh’s contributions highlighted the risks of correcting anemia with erythropoietin. He has also worked on the role of iron in anemia correction in dialysis patients, and as a member of the Executive Steering Committee of the DRIVE study his work has led to a new appreciation of the role of iron even among patients with a high ferritin anemia. He is currently a principal investigator or co-principal investigator on several studies funded by industry, various foundations, and the National Institutes of Health. A national and international presenter, Dr. Singh is the author of over 150 papers and 5 books. His articles have been published in such clinical journals as the New England Journal of Medicine, Kidney International, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN), the American Heart Journal, and the American Journal of Kidney Diseases. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Bpard of the National Kidney Foundation USA and Chair of the Editorial Board of Nephrology Times. He serves on the editorial board of JASN and Kidney International.
Dr. Singh is actively involved in education, particularly graduate and postgraduate medical education, and is the recipient of several awards for his contributions. He has led several Harvard Medical School courses, including providing course direction for several HMS courses. Most recently, he has been Chief Academic Officer at Harvard Medical School Dubai Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Research helping the UAE and Dubai in particular train a new breed to doctors.
Dr. Singh is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom, among other professional organizations.
