The team at Dove Medical Press in Auckland, New Zealand, was in for a treat this year as the Taylor & Francis CEO, Annie Callanan, paid us a visit all the way from the United States, and joined us for our annual fundraising event – the Walk the World (WTW) global initiative.

Walk the World is a global fundraising initiative championed by Informa PLC, our parent company, where over 170 offices around the world organise local walks that give employees the chance to get together, meet new colleagues, get energized doing an outdoor activity while raising money for great local causes.

The sun made an appearance just in time for our Walk the World event on Auckland’s North Shore. We were offered a choice of several distances to pick from – for example, 1km or 3km walk routes – allowing us to select a walk that suited us best, whether taking a shorter, gentle stroll or undertaking a more challenging route and distance. Annie Callanan joined the Auckland team for a 3km walk and the team enjoyed the opportunity to chat with Annie while admiring the beautiful ocean views.

This year, the aim is to collectively walk the distance of the equator – that’s 40,000km! Read more about our joint efforts here: https://walktheworld.informa.com/

With one in four New Zealand kids living in poverty, Dove Medical Press Auckland chose to help combat this by supporting two local charities. Catering food from Eat My Lunch, where every lunch purchased sees a lunch also given to a child in need, was a success last time, and a welcomed repeat this year.

Money raised from the walk itself went to KidsCan, dedicated to helping New Zealand kids affected by poverty by providing food, jackets, shoes and products to schools and early childhood centres across New Zealand.

Dove Medical Press set a goal of raising NZ$1,000 for KidsCan this year and smashed that goal raising more than NZ$1,800 – a fantastic outcome for an office of almost 50 people.

It was an amazing event with colleagues catching up in-person for the first time in a long time and the added benefit of helping New Zealand kids via our charity choices – a true win/win.
