Consulting Editor: Madhusudan Venkatareddy (M.D.)

Research Fellow, Division of Nephrology, University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, MI, USA

Dr. Venkatareddy is a research fellow in the division of Nephrology at the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor. He finds interest studying kidney diseases to understand why kidneys fail. His research involves work on podocyte biology to gain insight into depletion, signaling events and vesicular pathways associated with these specialized cells. He has developed a novel cell counting methodology that uses a single histologic section to estimate glomerular podocyte number and density. This method is simple to use, high throughput and is currently under evaluation for clinical usage in pathology and research labs. His work on cell trafficking involves study of proteins such as Vps34 and PIKfyve which act and associate with phosphoinositides to regulate vesicle dynamics. He is also known for his technical skills such as his expertise in Immuno Gold labeling of proteins under Electron Microscopy, for which he receives samples across the country. He was awarded for research excellence in department of medicine at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He acts as a peer reviewer for journals in kidney research.
