Post Doctoral Associate, Department of Biological Sciences SUNY College of Optometry, New York, NY, USA
Dr. Sandeep Kumar is working as a Postdoctoral Associate at State University of New York College of Optometry, New York, NY. Dr. Kumar received his M.S. degree at North Maharashtra University, India. Dr. Kumar graduated with a Ph.D. in the same subject from Babasaheb Bhimaro Ambedkar University, Lucknow, India.Currently, he is involved in studying the role of gap junction-mediated secondary cell death in retinal neuronal loss.
Dr. Kumar has been involved in defining the role of key genes in a number of inter-connecting networks in steroid induced glaucoma. These closely-linked gene networks mediate the steroid-induced changes in outflow facility and intraocular pressure (IOP). Thus, specific perturbation of these networks would ameliorate or prevent the development of steroid-induced IOP elevation. The projects conducted by him defined targets for pharmacologic intervention in steroid-induced glaucoma. In addition, and because of the similarities of steroid-induced with chronic open-angle glaucoma, the knowledge gained during these projects is helping to elucidate some of the pathophysiology of the latter condition as well.
