Dr Vijaykumar Muley
Consulting Editor: Vijaykumar Yogesh Muley (PhD)
Staff Scientist, Network Modelling Group, Hans-Knöll-Institute, Jena, Germany
Dr Muley is a computational biologist, graduated from the University of Pune in 2005. He worked on prediction and analysis of genome-scale protein-protein interactions using various computational techniques in the Computational and Functional Genomics Laboratory, Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad, earning a Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics in 2012. From 2010 for two years he held assistant professorship at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, working on the biodiversity of fishes in Indian rivers. He then joined the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Centre of Excellence in Epigenetics and worked on molecular aspects of higher organisms, which include comparative genomics of Hydra, phylogenetic and sequence analysis of chromatin remodellers, and evolution of PDZ domains across the three kingdoms of life. Currently, he is working as a staff scientist in the Network Modelling group at the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology - Hans Knöll Institute, Jena, Germany. Here mathematical modelling is applied to build genome-scale regulatory networks and try to understand how perturbed networks lead to diseases, especially cancer and sepsis. Dr Muley’s main interests revolve around network biology, the origin of multicellular organisms, the transcriptional regulation and evolution of the genome.
