Palliative care in COPD published by Dove Medical Press

The International Journal of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease has published the review “Palliative Care in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: An Unmet Area for Quality Improvement”.

As corresponding author Dr Julia Vermylen says “Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and yet, the majority of patients with COPD currently die with unmet needs and without access to Palliative Medicine.”

Dr Vermylen continues “This paper is a valuable review of the current international challenges to providing end-of-life care for COPD patients and proposes a new approach of proactive primary palliative care to improve the management of patients with COPD.”

As Dr Richard Russell, Editor-in-Chief, explains “This is an important area which has been neglected everywhere in the world. It deserves more coverage and this paper is a good start.”
