Auckland, New Zealand (June 01, 2011)

Dove Medical Press has announced the appointment of Professor Pranela Rameshwar as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Breast Cancer: Targets and Therapy.

This international, peer-reviewed open access journal focuses on breast cancer research, identification of therapeutic targets and the optimal use of preventative and integrated treatment interventions to achieve improved outcomes, enhanced survival and quality of life for the cancer patient.

Professor Rameshwar works at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – New Jersey Medical School. Her research interest is in stem cell biology, including dormancy of breast cancer by cancer stem cells in the bone marrow. Her laboratory also studies neural regulation of hematopoiesis; the immunology of adult human mesenchymal stem cells; and future potential for mesenchymal stem cells in various clinical disorders. Her research continues to be funded by federal, state and other agencies and she has trained several doctoral students, including those in the dual MD/PhD program.

She says, “I am pleased to serve as an editor of the journal, which focuses on original papers and reviews on cutting-edge findings. The journal will publish research findings to emphasize the translation of basic science to improve treatments and also to identify novel targets.”
