Noteworthy comment: There is rapidly growing interest in the Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor (AHR) and its potential roles in acute and chronic disorders ranging from arthritis to various forms of cancer. In this paper Khazaal and colleagues propose, explore and support a new perspective on this receptor, linking it with circadian rhythmicity and, in turn, to significant disruption of basic metabolic processes. This view may introduce an even greater potential importance for the AHR by implicating it in the regulation of fundamental biology and an even greater number of pathologies for which it could represent a critical target for treatments
