Dr. Hedera is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at University of Louisville, KY. He is a member of the Movement Disorders Division and also serves as a Co-Director of the Huntington's Disease Clinic. He is board certified with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Medical Genetics. His postgraduate clinical training was completed at the University of Michigan in neurology, medical genetics and fellowship in Movement disorders. Dr. Hedera's clinical focus is on inherited neurodegenerative disorders and on surgical therapy of Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders. He also actively participates in clinical trials, including the management of spasticity and cervical dystonia with botulinum toxins, and Quality of life and Stereotactic Radio Surgery for treatment of tremor.

Dr. Hedera has also established a neuro-genetic research laboratory combining genetic methods of gene mapping and cloning, and molecular characterization of selected genes using an invertebrate model organism Caenorhabditis elegans and mammalian neuronal cell cultures. His independent research is focused on determination of the most critical aspects of neurodegeneration pertinent to human diseases, such as Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, and hereditary spastic paraplegia.

Dr. Hedera published more than 130 papers in peer reviewed journals. He serves on the Scientific Advisory Board for the Spastic Paraplegia Foundation and International Essential Tremor Foundation. Dr. Hedera is an elected member of the American Neurological Association. He is also a member of the editorial board for Journal of Pre-Clinical and Clinical Studies, Tremor and Other Hyperkinetic Movements, Parkinsonism and Related Disorders and Neurology.
