A Low-Carbon Future

This year marks our 12th year of being a Toitū Net Carbonzero certified organization. This certification is very important to us as it shows our customers and employees that we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, and that we are continuously taking tangible steps to minimize our impact on the environment.

By focusing on concrete targets to measure, manage and reduce our carbon emissions, this year we have successfully achieved a reduction of 11% in emissions compared to the previous year, from 13.71 tCO2e to 12.14 tCO2e, and a reduction of 87% in our operational emissions since first getting certified in 2011.

Our employees have been welcoming the latest initiatives in reducing our carbon footprint, like reducing our office energy consumption, decreasing our business travel, encouraging remote working, reducing paper use to a minimum by digitizing all our content, and making it easily accessible to all our employees, customer and stakeholders.

While we have been taking actions to reduce emissions, we have also been proactively mitigating our impacts through the purchase of verified carbon credits from the New Zealand Emissions Unit Register.

As an academic publisher, we have a responsibility towards our authors, editors, peer reviewers and business partners, to continue to provide sustainable products and services that are aligned with our purpose and values.

We would like to thank Toitū Envirocare organization for their comprehensive greenhouse gas certification program to assess our carbon footprint. Over the past decade, they have been a wonderful leader in educating our business on how to champion the shift to a low-carbon future.
