Dr. Xing-Cong Li is a Senior Scientist in the National Center for Natural Products Research (NCNPR) and a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacognosy at the University of Mississippi, USA.  He received his B.S. in Medicinal Chemistry from Shanghai Medical University, M.S. in Natural Products Chemistry from Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science from Hiroshima University, Japan.  After spending over a year as a visiting scientist at the University of Iowa, USA, he joined the NCNPR at the University of Mississippi as a Postdoctoral Research Associate and gradually progressed to his current position.  He is also a Guest Professor of Soochow University, China and Co-Director of Sino-US TCM Research Center.

Dr. Li’s research interests include isolation, structure elucidation, and synthesis of bioactive natural products, medicinal plant research, and natural products based drug design.  In particular, his current research focuses on the discovery of antifungal natural products that can be used as molecular probes to uncover novel drug targets or lead to the development of new antifungal drugs for the treatment of life-threatening opportunistic fungal infections.  He is also interested in theoretical calculation of electronic circular dichroism spectra of bioactive natural products.  He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles/book chapters in the field of natural product and medicinal chemistry.  He has served the scientific community as an editorial advisory board member for two journals and as a reviewer for 17 journals.
