Dr. Changyi (Johnny) Chen is Professor of Surgery and Molecular & Cellular Biology at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA. Currently, Dr. Chen serves as Molecular Surgery Endowed Chair, Director of Molecular Surgeon Research Center, and Vice Chair for Research of the Michael E DeBakey Department of Surgery. Dr. Chen received his medical degree from China in 1982 and practiced general surgery for 7 years in China. In 1989, Dr. Chen immigrated to the United States for his advanced education in biomedical area and for the development of his academic career. Dr. Chen received his Master of Science degree from the University of Texas at El Paso, and his PhD degree from Georgia Institute of Technology. From 1996 to 2002, Dr Chen was Assistant Professor at the Department of Surgery, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. Since 2002, Dr. Chen has been recruited to the Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Chen is committed to establish an excellent research program and leadership in translational research in the field of cardiovascular disease and pancreatic cancer. Dr. Chen is also committed to establishing an excellent training program for career development of junior scientists, physicians and surgeons with emphasis on promoting individual motivation, strategic planning, scientific knowledge, technique skill, and leadership quality. Dr. Chen's laboratory is actively conducting several clinically relevant research projects. For example, his team is investigating the effects and molecular mechanisms of several cardiovascular risk factors including HIV protease, adipokine resistin and soluble CD40L on endothelial functions focusing on the endothelial nitric oxide synthase system, oxidative stress system, and signal transduction pathways. Different model systems are used to these investigations such as myograph, organ culture, mouse model, human tissues, and different types of endothelial cells.
Dr. Chen also has long term interest in vascular tissue engineering, hemodynamics, neointimal hyperplasia, and atherosclerosis. In addition, his team is heavily involved in the new program of the Personalized Genomic Medicine in cardiovascular disease and pancreatic cancer. These studies include tissue banking, genomic profiling, preclinical testing, clinical trials, and clinical applications. For example, Dr. Chen has several projects focusing on the role and mechanisms of non-coding RNA genes such as microRNA 196a (miR-196a) and X-inactive specific transcript (XIST) in pancreatic cancer. Since oxidative stress plays a critical role in both cardiovascular disease and pancreatic cancer, Dr. Chen has established a new program to discover new antioxidants from natural substances and existing clinical drugs, which may be used as novel therapeutic agents. Furthermore, Dr. Chen is developing PLGA [poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)]-based nanotechnology for molecular imaging and specific drug and gene delivery, which has great potential for clinical applications of molecular diagnostics and targeted therapies.
Dr. Chen is a recognized expert in surgical research in the United States. He has received many major research and training grants from the National Institutes of Health and other federal and non-federal agencies. Dr. Chen has more than 250 publications, 77 invited speakers or professorship, and 330 presentations at national or international scientific meetings. He has served as multiple leadership positions in academic committees, grant study sections and editorial boards of several journals.

Dr. Chang is an Associate Professor of Health outcomes in Texas A&M University. He obtained his PhD from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor with focus on health management, health services research and outcomes research in 2012. In addition, Dr. Chang completed two other master’s degrees focusing on Statistics from Columbia University in the City of New York and Health Policy and Management from Texas A&M Health Science Center.
His research generally focuses on examining issues related to effectiveness of medical care delivery and health outcomes in chronic disease and cancer. His research work in this context has examined diverse topics related to economic evaluation of pharmaceuticals, risk adjustment of health outcomes, quality of primary care, medication and patient safety, applied statistical methodology in health services evaluation, and patient-centered outcomes evaluation.

Professor Reem Kayyali is a Professor of Applied and Clinical Pharmacy with nearly 30 years' experience in research ranging from biochemical analysis to qualitative and quantitative social research, and nearly 20 years' experience of working in pharmacy education. Her current research interests focus on public health and medicines optimisation and adherence.
Professor Kayyali's expertise is in technology enabled care, investigating the use of technology to support and enhance patient care pathways for long term conditions, and address health inequalities while attracting competitive funding in that regard.

Dr. Michael Ortiz is a Pharmacist and Adjunct Associate Professor at the St Vincent's Clinical School, University of NSW, in Sydney. He has extensive healthcare experience, which combines his Pharmacy background with international academic and Pharmaceutical industry experience. He has a Pharmacy degree and a Graduate Diploma of Epidemiology.
Dr. Ortiz spent 10 years as a community pharmacist in Australia. He has taught in Pharmacy Schools in Sydney, the US and Canada, and has worked for a number of Pharmaceutical Companies including Glaxo, Pfizer, Sanofi and Abbott. He was a team leader at the NPS-MedicineWise. He also worked at a number of Pharmaceutical Consulting companies including RTI Health Solutions, Quintiles and HealthConnect.
He is a member of five Medical journal Editorial Boards and he has reviewed numerous manuscripts and funding grants. He also has more than forty publications in peer reviewed journals in the areas of community pharmacy professional services, patient compliance with medicines and more than 50 presentations at professional meetings.

Dr. Yao is currently a professor in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, Molecular Virology and Microbiology, Pathology and Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine; a health research scientist at center for translational research on inflammatory diseases at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, USA.
Dr. Yao earned her medical degree from the Southeast University School of Medicine in China (1986) and doctoral degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta Georgia, USA. (1996). After a brief postdoctoral training in Dr. Richard Compans’ lab, she became an assistant professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Emory University School of Medicine in 1997. She was then recruited to Baylor College of Medicine as an associate professor in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, Molecular Virology and Microbiology in 2002, and promoted to a full professor in 2007.
Dr. Yao has been actively involved in vaccine development for more than 15 years. She is a member of many professional societies including American Society for Virology (ASV), American Association of Immunologists (AAI) and American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), etc. She is also a member of the Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) and Dan L Duncan cancer center (DLDCC). She is one of the pioneer researchers in developing chimeric virus-like particles for HIV mucosal vaccine and pancreatic cancer immunotherapy. Dr. Yao is currently the Principal Investigator on NIH grants, VA merit grant and several other pilot project grants, and has been collaborating with researchers at various Texas medical center institutes. She has 196 scientific publications in the fields of Virology, Immunology, and Oncology. She has also served on editorial board and invited reviewers in several professional journals. Dr. Yao has also served on grants review study sections nationally and internationally. Her research programs include HIV and Chagas Disease vaccine development, pancreatic cancer pathogenesis and immunotherapy.
