Dr Liu
Editor-in-Chief: Dr Chuan-Ju Liu
Dr Liu was awarded a Ph.D. in 1996 in the fields of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, and received a three-year postdoctoral training in the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University. Dr. Liu held a dual appointment as an Assistant Professor from Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Cell Biology at New York University School of Medicine since July of 2002, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2007. The first focus of his current research is to investigate the roles of cytokines and ADAMTS (A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase with ThromboSpondin motifs) metalloproteinases in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, with the hope to increase our ability to monitor the biological and physical properties of cartilage extracellular matrix and ultimately to develop effective therapeutic strategies for arthritis, and the second focus is to investigate the roles of growth factors and extracellular matrix proteins in skeletal development, with the goal of understanding the molecular events involved. Overall, Dr. Liu has published more than 50 scientific papers in several prestigious peer-reviewed journals, including EMBO Journal, Molecular and Cellular Biology, FASEB Journal, Molecular Biology of the Cell, Cell Death and Differentiation, Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, and Journal of Biological Chemistry. Dr. Liu is the Managing Editor of Frontiers in Bioscience and in the Editorial Boards of several journals, including International Journal of Biological Chemistry, Clinical Medicine: Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Disorders, and The Open Journal of Biology. Dr. Liu is the recipient of multiple national and international awards, including the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research's Harold M. Frost Award, the Arthritis Foundation's Dorothy W. Goldstein Award, and the Kappa Delta Award, one of the most prestigious awards in orthopaedic and rheumatoid research, from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
