Professor Zou

Editor-in-Chief: Professor Ming Zou

Dr. Zou is Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Professor of Medicine in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Department of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center (OUHSC). He is Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Medicine and Director of Vascular Biology Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center.
 
Dr. Zou earned his medical degree at the Hubei Medical University at Xianning, China and his PhD degree in the University of Konstanz, Germany. He worked as Assistant Professor in the Boston University School of Medicine and Associate Professor in the University of Tennessee. He became Professor of Biochemistry and Medicine in the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in 2006.
 
Dr. Zou has served on several national and international study panels such as the National Institutes of Health, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, Chinese National Science Foundation, etc. In 2008 he was elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation, membership in which reflects accomplishments by its members at an early stage in their careers and one of the United States’ oldest honor societies of physician-scientists.
 
Dr. Zou is recognized internationally as an expert in diabetes and diabetes related cardiovascular complications. He is the author of more than 100 journal articles and book chapters. He is the editorial members for over ten journals and reviewer for over 30 journals, including Diabetes, the Journal of Clinical Investigation, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Circulation, Circulation Research, and the New England Journal of Medicine.

Associate Editor: Dr Candis M. Morello

Dr. Candis Morello is founding faculty and an Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). She Chairs a year-long Pharmacy Practice Course and teaches in the third year therapeutics course.  She focuses her teaching on diabetes care, communication skills, and tobacco cessation, for which she has received several teaching awards from both students and colleagues. Dr. Morello earned her Pharm.D. from the University of California, San Francisco School of Pharmacy in 1996, and completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency with a Geriatrics Emphasis at the Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS). She is board certified as a Diabetes Educator through the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators.

Dr. Morello is an Ambulatory Care Pharmacist Specialist who helped establish and manage diabetes clinics at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego (NMCSD).  She received a letter of commendation from the Commanding Admiral of the NMCSD for these endeavors and most recently she was awarded the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Literature Award for Innovation in Pharmacy Practice describing her diabetes clinic work. For eight years, Dr. Morello served as the Attending Pharmacist for Diabetes Night at the UCSD Student-Run Free Medical Clinic Project in downtown San Diego serving the working poor and homeless population and in the Diabetes Care Clinic at the Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare-System. Currently, she is developing a clinical practice for diabetes patients at the VASDHS in La Jolla.  Her practice and research have focused on diabetes care and related diseases, endocrinology, anticoagulation and clinical education.  She has authored several articles, book chapters and abstracts and serves as a reviewer for prestigious publications and texts.

For the past 12 years, Dr. Morello has held numerous leadership positions within local and state professional pharmacy associations including Board of Director, Secretary, Delegate and Chair or Faculty Liaison for various committees. In 2002, Dr. Morello was honored with the San Diego Society of Health-System Pharmacists “Pharmacist of the Year” award. In addition, in 2003 she was recognized at the California Society of Heath-System Pharmacists Practitioner Recognition Program as a practitioner fellow.

Dr. Morello is actively involved in several community outreach projects related to diabetes and preventative care. For over a decade, she has been a volunteer faculty member for the “Taking Control of Your Diabetes” not- for-profit organization and writes the “From Your Pharmacist” column for its nationally distributed newsletter.
