Dr Mora-Diez

Editor-in-Chief: Nelaine Mora-Diez

Dr. Mora-Diez is an Associate Professor in Chemistry at Thompson Rivers University, also holding adjunct status in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Victoria, both in British Columbia, Canada.

Named best undergraduate student at Cuba's University of Havana in 1996, Dr. Mora-Diez then undertook Ph.D. studies in Theoretical Chemistry at Dalhousie University (1997- 2001). Her graduate thesis dealt with the kinetic study and the calculation of excited states of systems of environmental interest. She was awarded a Chemical Computing Group Excellence Award by the Computers in Chemistry Division of the American Chemical Society in 2001. After graduation, she joined the National Research Council of Canada’s Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences while holding an NSERC Postdoctoral Visiting Fellowship. In August 2003, she joined Thompson Rivers University as an Assistant Professor. She was awarded the university’s Excellence in Scholarship Award in 2009.

Dr. Mora-Diez’s research has been funded since 2004 by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). Her research program in computational physical organic chemistry focuses on the thermodynamic and kinetic study of systems of chemical, environmental and biochemical interest, both in the gas phase and in solution. She is particularly interested in the calculation of equilibrium and rate constants, as well as in the calculation of reaction mechanisms and excited states.

Dr. Mora-Diez has been invited to lecture at a large number of academic and research institutions, has presented at numerous conferences throughout North America and Europe, and has acted as reviewer for a number of scholarly journals. She has also received research fellowships from the Ministry of Science and Education of Spain and the Basque Foundation for Science (Ikerbasque).
