Dr Lopate

Editor-in-Chief: Dr. Glenn Lopate

Dr. Glenn Lopate is an Associate Professor of Neurology in the Division of Neuromuscular Disease at the Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis, Missouri.  He graduated from The Ohio State University School of Medicine in 1987 and completed his Neurology residency at Barnes Hospital in Saint Louis.  During his neuromuscular disease fellowship and as junior faculty at Washington University he helped to further define the role of a variety of autoantibodies in peripheral nerve disease.

Dr. Lopate’s research interests continue to focus on autoimmune neuromuscular disease.  He was one of the first to show the efficacy of high-dose intermittent corticosteroids in the treatment of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy.  He is active in clinical drug trials and is a principle investigator on treatment trials of multifocal motor neuropathy and inclusion body myositis.  He is also head of the Skin Pathology section of the Washington University Neuromuscular Clinical Laboratory where he supervises the processing of skin biopsies, interprets the biopsies, and is looking for new clinical correlates of small fiber neuropathy.

Besides seeing patients in the neuromuscular disease clinic, Dr. Lopate is a member of the Electrodiagnostic Laboratory at Washington University.  He performs routine and specialized electrodiagnostic studies including single fiber electromyography.  He is the director of the Barnes-Jewish Hospital neurology resident clinic at Saint Louis ConnectCare hospital, a hospital for city residents and the uninsured.  Dr. Lopate is a managing editor in the neurology section of the online medical reference emedicine and is a member of the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine Monograph/Issues and Opinions Committee.
